Male-Female Brain Differences

What kind of brain do you have? There really are big differences between the male and female brain, says Simon Baron-Cohen, director of the Autism Research Centre, Cambridge University. In his new book, the Essential Difference: Men, Women and the Extreme Male Brain (published by Penguin) Baron-Cohen shows that, indisputably, on average male and female minds are of a slightly different character. Men tend to be better at analysing systems (better systemisers), while women tend to be better at reading the emotions of other people (better empathisers).

Human brain has two hemispheres which function differently

From classical times, it has been known that the human brain has two distinct ways of thinking and knowing. Many scientists, intellectuals, and authors have given names to these two types of intelligence or cognitive styles.

Some examples are:

  Left Brain
  Right Brain
 RATIONAL
  Maslow  Rational  Intuitive
  Bruner  Rational  Metaphoric
  Koestler  Associative thinking  Bisociative thinking
De Bono  Vertical  Horizontal or lateral
  Bronowski  Deductive  Imaginative
  Shopenhauer  Objective  Subjective
  Freud  Secondary process  Primary process
  Jung  Causal  Acausel
  Langer  Discursive symbolism  Presentational symbolism
  Neisser  Sequential processing  Multiple processing
  Kubie  Conscious processing  Preconscious processing

Whatever they are labeled, the effective use of these two distinctive processes is vital for all creative human thought, for the full functions of the human brain.

Left Brain - Right Brain Conflict

The brain is divided into two halves (hemispheres).
Usually, the left half of the brain controls the right side of the body.
The right half of the brain controls the left side of the body.

10 amazing Facts about Brain

1.Your brain uses less power than your refrigerator light:
The brain uses 12 watts of power. Over the course of a day, your brain uses the amount of energy contained in two large bananas. Curiously, even though the brain is very efficient, it's an energy hog. It is only 3 per cent of the body's weight, but consumes 1/6 (17 per cent) of the body's total energy. Most of its energy costs go into maintenance; the added cost of thinking hard is barely noticeable.

A Trippy illusion

1. Stare at the center of the trippy illusion for at least ten seconds.
Your eyes will want to look away, but focus on the center as intently as you can.

2.
Stare at any solid object in your house and watch it warp!

Distance changes face perception

This is probably one of the best illusions ever! Please do the following: look at the above images from your seat in front of the computer; Mr. Angry is on the left, and Ms. Calm is on the right. Now, get up from your seat, and move back 10 or 12 feet. Who’s the angry and calm now?

The magic of the disappearing dots

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink. If you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to green. Now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture. After a short period of time, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a green dot rotating if you're lucky! It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear.
This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we see.
